Brahma is represented by the lower portion, Vishnu by the centre, and Shiva by the higher and most noticeable portion. Shivling, also known as the Param Braham or Supreme Shiva, is a representation of all three forces together. According to a different understanding, the Shivling is composed of two halves, Shiva and Shakti. The yoni is thought to be Shakti, whereas the top portion is thought to be Shiva.
