Lord Ganesh
Ganesh ji is the diety in Hindu religion.He is termed as the son of lord Shiva and Devi Parvati. He is known for his intelligence and auspiciousness. before begining a new work his worship is necessary. He is known from many names like Ekdhant, lambhodar , vinayak , vikat ,Sumukh , Kapil , Vigan-Nash, Ganaadyaksh , Dhumarketu etc. His vahan is Mushak who is known as Karuncha . According to mythological story Kaaucha was a demon named Mushikasura.he was defeated by Ganesha and blessed him as his vahan. Lord lambhodar has four hands in which he carries accessories including Bowl of sweets, Axe , Rosary, Lotus etc. He is the only god who has human body with elephant mouth. He has one tusk that’s why he is called as Ekdhant.
The Story behind becoming Ekdhant
There is two mythological story behind it . In the first story Lord Parshuram who is the sixth Incarnation of Lord Vishnu and great devotee of Lord Shiva visited Kailash Mountain to meet Shiva . when he was some distance away from his lord he was stopped by Ganesha .Parshuram warned ganesh not to come in his way, otherwise the results will be worst. But ganesh ji did not care about his threats. He told him that he was ordered by his father shiva to not let anyone inside until he ordered him to do so. After some humble attempts parshuram ji gets furious and he invite Ganesh ji for a battle. The dreaded battle starts between both of them .At last Parshuram ji Took out his weapon called Farsha(which he used to kept with him) and attack on Ganesh ji.Ganesh ji took this attack on his tusk .The tusk got broken and Ganesh ji fell on ground and remember his mother . When Parvati ji heared her son’s voice she got agrresive and ready to kill parshuram ji. Parshuram ji request shiva to save him.The Shiva came in between and exhort Parvati ji and save Parshuram.
In The Second story Maharishi Vedvyas wanted to get the epic Mahabharta written by someone who could write it completely without stopping. Because if some one stop writting in middle Ved Vyas ji will forget, due to which he will not be able to complete the work. So Brahma ji suggest him to go to lord Shiva he can solve this problem . When he went to Kailash he explain the whole matter. Lord Shiva ordered Ganesha to help him. Before writting this Ganesha put a condition that maharishi have to speak continuously utill he complete it.If he stop in between he will stop writting. Vedvyas ji agree on this. Vedvyas ji also put a condition that ganesh ji had to write all the sloks by understanding them. Ganesh ji also agree. The writting of Mahabharta Starts. While wriiting most of the Kavya the pen got broken .To match Vedvyas ji speed in absence of pen Ganesh ji broke his one tusk and started writing with it. The Mahabharta completed . It is said that it took three days to complete it.From that day Ganesh is known as Ekdhanta.
